Carla Grant and Don Kern, co-directors of Theatre at Coffee Creek were awarded the Department of Correction’s Volunteer of the Year Award for 2019. Carla and Don have been volunteering at Coffee Creek since 2014.

Through their work, inmates at the facility have been able to perform in numerous theatrical productions, some of their own making as well as a couple of staged plays including Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and Twelve Angry Women. Additionally, Carla and Don have brought theatrical groups in to perform at Coffee Creek and have brought in theatre professionals to assist in their productions. 

Their committment to their work and the inmates and their love for theatre has enabled them to build a strong and reliable bond with the DOC.
