Alumni Spotlight: Randall
“OHOM, for guys and girls who are getting out of prison is life changing. If you’ve ever taken the time to learn about someone, not judging a book by its cover, you peel that cover off and you learn about that person’s heart, you learn about that person’s intentions — that’s OHOM.”

Randall never had a run-in with law enforcement—until he was sentenced to 18 months in prison. The experience opened his eyes to the diversity of people found in prisons, and the struggle they all share: trying to get a fresh start upon release. Through the music program at Columbia River Correctional Institution, the longtime musician was able to share a song he’d written, documenting the challenges that incarcerated people face on the outside.

Written and recorded by Randall, former inmate and member of our music program at Columbia River Correctional Institution.

“I didn’t write it for myself. I wrote it to anyone who can relate. It’s about a guy losing everything that he had and him trying to get back out in society, but how people won’t give you that second chance because you have a criminal background because you did time in prison.”
