Alumni Spotlight: Deb
“The first thing I did when I got out was sign up for school because I wanted something so far out of my comfort zone that I wouldn’t have time to be sad — and I signed up for theater arts. I’m a full-time student finishing up my general ed classes, because I want to get out into the community theater. That’s where I want to work, and that’s where my heart’s going to be.”

Deb called her husband a “six-foot, 290-pound French-Canadian cowboy.” He was the love of her life — and he passed away from cancer while she was in prison. The pain of losing her husband was almost more than she could bear, until she found OHOM’s Theatre program at Coffee Creek. Through the performing arts program, Deb shared the love story of her marriage, began to process her grief, and celebrated her husband’s life and legacy. Now released, Deb is on a mission to show her husband that she’s making a better life for herself: “I know he looks down on me every day, and he knows that I’m going to be okay.”
