For Musonda, prison was a journey of self-discovery. Before being sentenced to prison in 2014, Musonda was a music minister, tending to other people who had experienced incarceration. The transition to prison life was hard, but made easier by OHOM’s music program at Columbia River Correctional Institution, which he says “felt like home.” Musonda says that even with his religious background, he was welcomed and accepted — as was everyone who wanted to join the group, no matter their beliefs or affiliations. “That hour and a half really blessed my spirit every week.”
