Music from the Inside is a short documentary produced by Outside the Frame about OHOM’s CRCI Studio. Every week, men incarcerated at Columbia River Correctional Institution gather to work on, share, and record music.

It’s a joyous and collaborative gathering that serves as a counterbalance to the dehumanizing experience of incarceration. Music not only provides opportunities to heal and reflect, but to also build community within and across prison walls. The film focuses on the experiences of the participants and the impact that music making has on their lives.

The CRCI Studio is a program of Open Hearts Open Minds, a non-profit arts in prison organization whose team members support the guys on the inside by providing equipment, production support, and connections to the outside, at-large community. Follow CRCI Studio on Instagram to keep up with news and music from participants both inside and out. Music from the Inside was produced by Outside the Frame, an organization that trains homeless and marginalized youth to be directors of their own films and lives. Young people who are experiencing homelessness are provided a creative outlet, job training, a public platform, and a sense of dignity and possibility.
