Join us for the 2022 Day of Empathy

Join OHOM, The Family Preservation Project, and YWCA of Greater Portland for the 2022 Day of Empathy.

This virtual event will take place on March 30, 2022. To attend, register here.

The Day of Empathy project asks us to imagine a world without prisons; a world that centers care and not punishment in addressing harm. What would this look like? Feel like? What is possible for our lives and our communities?

The Family Preservation Project invited OHOM to collaborate with moms and children impacted by incarceration in reimagining justice. We’ve been conjuring performance pieces to interweave throughout the event of interviews and guest speakers. The shared insight, beauty and resilience is a wonder to behold.

Other highlights:

  • Conversation with Prentis Hemphill, host of acclaimed podcast “Finding Our Way,” and Founder and Director of the Embodiment Institute and Black Embodiment Initiative.
  • Art by Viva La Free
  • Poetry by Jasitheauthor
  • Music by Colin Meloy of the Decemberists
  • Discussion and interview with mothers who have been directly impacted by the criminal punishment system and filmmaker, Brian Lindstrom.

We’d love to see you there (virtually)!
