In Memoriam: Patrick Seraya

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart we write to you today to tell you of the passing of our long time volunteer, Patrick Seraya. These are indeed difficult times to live through and it is deeply saddening that Patrick’s bright light is now counted among the many whose lives have been cut short.

Patrick served the men at Columbia River Correctional Institution through OHOM‘s Music Program by teaching weekly guitar classes. He will be greatly missed. He had a gentle nature and a smile that would not quit. One of his former students once said of him, “I am blessed to have discovered Patrick Seraya in his involvement with Open Hearts Open Minds at CRCI. I can’t explain in words the amount of gratitude I have for what he brings to CRCI. I have been able to not only learn new things in music but also work through my life’s mess through the music I’ve been learning in the class. In my eyes it is invaluable and I don’t know where I’d be without it.”

Help a friend.

Graveside services and a celebration of his life was held  Saturday, October 9th. Patrick is survived by Francine and three beautiful young children. We are asking that anyone who is able to please help Francine and the kids by giving to the campaign linked here / https://gofund.me/3a7f182d

Testimonials.

If you knew Patrick from his work on the inside or otherwise and have a sweet word to share, please send to [email protected]. With your permission, we’d like to share at upcoming concert and tribute page.

“Patrick’s Progression”

Patrick was a highly gifted self-taught musician. He could tell you anything you wanted to know about music theory too. He was humble and would reach you where you were. I would occasionally pop into one of his classes at CRCI. While there I learned this progression from him. I play it for you now.
Thank you Patrick.

Love, Carla
